Removing redundant Infrastructure to create a safe and accessible wharf area
Location: Esperance WA
Client: Southern Ports Authority
Duration July to October 2021
Contract Type: Lump Sum
Esperance Port is a pivotal trading hub that connects key regional Western Australian industries to global markets. With the modernization of shipping methods and key upgrades planned, the long redundant 4,000tph minerals shiploader and conveyor system at Berth 2 needed to be removed. CareyMC was engaged by Southern Ports to undertake this Class 1 Demolition project.
Scope of Work:
- Dismantling and Disposal:
- Removal of the existing berth face shiploader
- Removal of feed conveyor galleries and transfer towers
- Modifications and Strengthening:
- Enhancements to gallery trestles to provide adequate support for the retained Sulphur import system
The project resulted in the demolition of over 520 tonnes of fabricated steel structures, some rising over 28 meters in height.
Key Achievements:
- Retention of Sulphur Import System:
The retention of the Sulphur Import System allowed CareyMC to demonstrate its capabilities in performing shutdown services for conveyor systems. This included the shortening of the conveyor and installation of a new tail-end gallery, all completed under tight permissible outages. - Coordination with Port Operations:
The team worked closely with Port operations to ensure that there was no adverse effect on shipping operations or project activities. Disruptive works were meticulously planned around the shipping schedule, and CareyMC ensured that detailed traffic management plans were in place to permit landside transport logistics to continue at the port unhindered.
