Modernizing Fuel Unloading and Distribution Systems at the Port

Esperance Port is a crucial trading hub connecting key regional Western Australian industries to global markets. Additionally, the port serves as a convenient fuel import terminal for the Great Southern and Goldfields Regions, necessitating efficient handling facilities to expedite the unloading and distribution process. To upgrade existing services to modern standards, CareyMC was engaged by Southern Ports to undertake the Diesel Pipeline Project.
Scope of Work:
- Demolition:
- Removal of the existing diesel pipeline, including land-based buried and underwharf slung pipework
- Installation:
- Installation of a new DN350 diesel pipeline
- Relocation of the existing pigging station
- Construction:
- Construction of a 5.4m x 4.3m x 1.2m deep concrete connection pit, complete with trafficable lids
- Electrical Installation:
- Installation of electrical supply and alarm system from the pit to the Port Operations Building
- Site Restoration:
- Repair and resealing of existing hardstands
Key Achievements:
- Complex Brownfields Services:
The project allowed CareyMC to showcase its capabilities in providing complex brownfields services. A critical component of the work involved managing the interfaces between ongoing client operations and project activities. - Outages and Sequencing:
Outages and the sequencing of works were carefully planned and coordinated to ensure that no interruption to through traffic occurred. - Community Engagement:
The project was completed to the client’s satisfaction, with over 17% of all site hours worked by local Aboriginal people.
