Daniel Tucker AM

Chairman & Founder

Daniel Tucker AM founded Carey in 1995 and remains the sole owner and Managing Director. Daniel has over 28 years’ experience in the mining industry having held executive roles in both ASX listed public companies and other private companies.

As an inaugural appointee to the Prime Minister’s Indigenous Advisory Council, Daniel is a highly respected and successful Aboriginal leader and businessman.

Daniel has won numerous Industry and Government awards including:

Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations -Outstanding Manager Award in the 2003 [Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment Awards]
Ethnic Business Awards 2010 – Winner Indigenous in Business Category;
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Service Category, Western Region; and
Ethnic Business Awards 2013, Champion of Champions, Indigenous in Business.

Other notable positions Daniel has previously and/or currently holds include:

Inaugural Member of Prime Ministers Indigenous Advisory Council under the Abbott Federal Government;
Board Member of the Commonwealth Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC)
Founder and Chairman of the Carey Education Trust.

He has previously served on the Council of Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia and on the boards of a number of private and publicly Australian Stock Exchange listed companies. Daniel has also been an active member of numerous community-based organisations.

Daniel was appointed Member of the Order of Australia in 2020 for significant service to the mining and indigenous community.

Mike Erickson

Corporate Advisor

Mike Erickson is a highly experienced Mining Executive, Director & Committee Chair with 37 years’ operational experience in the mining industry.

Passionate about the value that a diverse and inclusive workplace can unlock, where all people are afforded the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

Active mentor in the Women in Mining (WA) Mentoring program since 2012.

Mike was awarded the CME Women in Resources Champion Award in 2023 for promoting inclusion in the resources sector.

Mike was Senior Vice president for AngloGold Ashanti prior to joining Carey Group in 2023.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology.

Richard McLeod

Chief Operating Officer

Richard McLeod has over 45 years of industry experience in operational and mine management roles. He also has extensive open-pit and underground gold mining knowledge, and has fostered positive cultures on mine sites.

Prior to joining Carey, Richard was the chief operating officer of gold miner Calidus Resources, and chief operating officer of Macmahon where he was instrumental in delivering year-on-year results and was accountable for operational and growth results for the open-pit, underground and civil in Australia and International jurisdictions.

Richard spent 14 years with Anglo Gold Ashanti where he provided international support in Africa, Brazil and Australia, including the last nine years in senior management roles at the Tropicana and Sunrise Dam projects.

Sakhawat Kabir

Executive Corporate Affairs & General Counsel

Sakhawat Kabir is a seasoned legal and commercial professional, serving as Executive Corporate Affairs & General Counsel at Carey Group.

Prior to Carey, Sakhawat spent 8 years at Fortescue Limited, holding legal and commercial leadership roles including Legal Manager in the company’s core mining business and Head of Corporate Development at the Williams Advanced Engineering (UK) subsidiary. Sakhawat has also worked in the oil and gas sector as a lawyer for PetroChina Company Limited and Buru Energy Limited. He started his career at King & Wood Mallesons, specialising in energy, resources, and projects.

Sakhawat holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia, along with a Certificate IV in Fitness from the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers.

Katalin Vaskovics

Head of Finance

Kate joined the Carey team in 2024. She is an experienced Finance Professional, skilled in Preparation of IFRS compliant Standalone as well as Consolidated Financial Statements, Cash Flow, Statutory Accounting and Income Tax.

Kate is a strong accounting professional with a Master’s degree focused in Accounting from The University of Western Australia and CA ANZ.

Peter Truscott

Carey Assets General Manager

Peter Truscott joined Carey in 2025 as General Manager for Carey Assets.

Peter believes reliable asset and maintenance management comes from skilled people working in a controlled way, following a continuous improvement process of Plan, Do, Check, Act. He is skilled at developing and implementing effective asset and maintenance management strategies, standards, systems and processes aligned to business requirements, managing plant and equipment across its life cycle. Ultimately, his goal is to achieve optimum availability and reliability at the lowest sustainable cost.

His leadership roles have given him the experience and skills to build strong maintenance teams, while continuing to develop employees’ skills and create pathways for succession. His strengths lie in data analysis and practical problem-solving, which enable him to drive maintenance and reliability improvements and instill process stability, all while sustaining safety, budget and timeframe requirements. He brings solid business and financial acumen together with an engineering and project management approach.

He is a tertiary qualified Mechanical Engineer and senior leader with deep strategic and operational knowledge, and extensive experience in asset and maintenance management across both fixed and mobile equipment in the mining, construction and quarrying sectors.

Lauren Tandy

People and Culture Manager

Lauren Tandy joined Carey in 2025 as HR Superintendent, before becoming People & Culture Manager that same year.

Lauren joined Carey after more than 10 years at Cummins Inc, where she held leadership roles in HR and Ethics and Compliance. Prior to Cummins, Lauren held roles with other mining services companies, including Macmahon and NRW.

Raphael Poole

Carey Training & Development

Raphael Poole brings over 15 years RTO management experience in the Australian Vocational Education & Training sector.

From Ireland originally, she and her family relocated to WA from NSW in early 2018, to take on the role of RTO Manager at the Australian Institute of Management WA. Prior to relocating, she was National RTO Manager with BSI Learning in Sydney, where she successfully tendered to Government, winning the contract with Corrective Services NSW to deliver Foundation Skills training and assessment in Corrective Services facilities throughout NSW.

Prior to Carey, Raphael was engaged by the WesTrac Institute in South Guildford Perth, where she was the National RTO Manager, working strategically to grow business and reputation, both in WA and NSW. She was also a senior leader within the Learning and Development team.

Her Australian qualifications include Diploma of Management, Diploma of Salon Management and TAE40116 Cert IV in Training & Assessment.
