Architectural Shelters, Landscaping and Public Amenities for the Marina Precinct

The Two Rock Redevelopment project provides public amenities and sculptural landmarks to the marina. The project site was over 800m of foreshore adjacent to the Marina. The highlight of the project is the colourful ‘Birdman’ shelter which reflects the historic flying competition held each year at the marina where participants would test their weird and wonderful flying machines.


The marina precinct and boat ramp is a busy area with boaties using the ramp and parking and people walking the foreshore. Public access was required throughout the project and works needed to managed The proximity to the marina also provided challenges for wind, water and environmental protection. Carey managed the public interaction and environmental challenges throughout the project by providing a safe, clean site and delivered the work on time and budget.


Carey was also able to successfully manage several stakeholders using the area including the Sun City Yacht Club, Sea Rescue and the Department of Transport. Carey added value to job by providing some amenities and assistance to the Sea Rescue.

The scope involved:

  • Removal of the old footpaths and infrastructure
  • Installation of new underground power, water, sewer and CCTV cabling
  • New footpaths, parking and associated civils over 800m of foreshore
  • Installation of the ‘Birdman’ architectural shelter
  • New accessible public barbecues and shelters
  • New public toilets
  • Lighting, seating, bike racks, bins & signage
  • Management of public interface and access throughout the project.

Carey provided employment and training opportunities for 2 aboriginal employees over the project
